Bodcaw Bank, one of the oldest businesses in the small town of Stamps, AR, first opened its doors in 1903 to support a thriving mill town that included Bodcaw Lumber Company. This saw mill was once the largest saw mill for yellow pine in the world.
After the end of World War I, all the virgin forest of south Arkansas was cut and the mills closed.
The town was named in honor of Hardy James Stamps, an early settler of the area. It is the only town in the nation named “Stamps”.
Stamps, Arkansas was also, the childhood home of Author Maya Angelou and was depicted in her book, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. In 2014 the Lake June Park was renamed and dedicated in Maya Angelou’s memory and is now the Dr. Maya Angelou Memorial Park.
Bodcaw Bank moved to its new larger building in 1975, just beside the old location.
The bank continues to be a community oriented bank that takes pride in being locally owned and operated. We are proud to be a part of our town and Lafayette County.
Our goal is to help you reach your dreams and aspirations, whether that’s the purchase of a new home or making sound investments. You can rest assured in knowing you have a bank with more than 115 years of experience and stability backing you. We are here and we are ready.
